1° ROUTE

Vatolla - Rocca Cilento - Paestum - Castellabate

It is a very interesting itinerary of the internal Cilento, because it crosses mountainous roads and hills; with the sea always in sight. The first stop is Vatolla, where you are obliged to visit the Farmers Art Museum. The castle of Vargas is just as much of interest, where for nine years on of the most great Italian philosopher stayed , Gianbattista Vico; and it was at Vatolla where he wrote his major opera " La scienza nuova". Continue for Rocca Cilento to visit the vast castle of Rocca, where its summit dominates a great part of Cilento. Continue for Paestum where a bath of culture awaits you, between the temples of the ancient Greek town of Poseidonia . Back to the road, then stopping at the antique medieval town of Castellabate, where other than admiring the marvellous panorama of the gulf of Salerno, you can also appreciate a gentle walk between the lanes of the historic centre.

2° ROUTE (In the heart of Cilento)

Grotte di Castelcivita - S. Angelo a Fasanella - Corleto Monforte - Roscigno Vecchia

Visit the extraordinary caves of Castelcivita, which dominate the village that they were named after - continue for S. Angel a Fasanella, where you can visit the medieval antique village , as well as admiring the cave of "Angelo" ( ex convent built in this cave in the X1 century).- continuing for Corleto Monforte where you can visit an important museum of birds - Stop with the possibility to freshen up in a characteristic Cilento restaurant, typical products - then a visit to ancient Roscigno, "a village museum", therefore abandoned by its inhabitants after a natural disaster , it is here where the 18 century town plan is completely conserved, you can visit also the Art museum of the civil farmers, (by appointment).

3° ROUTE

Padula - Teggiano - Laurino - Magliano Vetere - Trentinara

Padula is distinguished by the presents of a monastery the biggest and most beautiful in Europe, which extends for a good 52.000sq.m., it is the Certosa of S. Lorenzo founded in 1306. Inside there are various art treasures and paintings of rare beauty , all well preserved. Another attraction at Padula are the shrines of 300 patriots of Carlo Pisacane who was buried in 1857.
Teggiano, the antique centre of Taggianum, already existent in the Roman period , even up until today it has conserved the face and appearance of a antique medieval town. The medieval castle built by Sanseverino, then master of Marsico and of Cilento is of notable interest. In this castle in the XV century, there was an important conspiracy ,against the King of Naples, still today it is remembered as the plot of the Barons.
Caves of Perosa: the only caves in Italy which are crossed by an underground river, and at its end you can admire a small waterfall. The caves are 2 km. Long.
Teggiano: Here are still alot of antique churches, built between the X111 and XV, centuries.
Laurino: a small medieval village , with notable historic interests.
Magliano Vetere: an antique village built on a ram of a mountain, from where you can admire a splendid panorama.
Trentinara: Is the terrace on the plain of Paestum, also from here there is an extraordinary view.

4° ROUTE

Acciaroli - Pioppi - Velia - Palinuro - S. Severino di Centola

American writers gave the "Noble prize", for the literature of Ernest Hamingway. Then a short stop at Pioppi where you can admire its sea museum. Passing Velia the antique Greek town of Elea, famous for its school of medicine and philosophy. Arrive at Palinuro and take a boat trip to visit its extraordinary caves, of which one of these is the splendid blue cave. A short stop and maybe lunch in a typical local restaurant. Returning you cross the internal Cilento , which is very interesting, with an obligated short stop at S. Severino di Centola, a medieval village abandoned in the XII century.
